Back to work

Battered for a week by winds and ocean waves, tanned and leather'd, we are back from glorious Waikiki beach.

But not too much slacking off here, not to worry. Constantly parading our sunwear selection in front of hordes of Japanese vacationers, we never stopped planning, brainstorming , kneading the future scape for Spectacles for Humans.

OK, OK, we might have taken a moment or two to teach younger generation how to take life by the horns by going spearfishing ...

While we were gone a lot of things were happening on new deliveries front and most of them were delays in production.
Orgreen acetates are delayed and so are MYKITA plastics. It looks good for Spivvy frames and they should be coming in really soon.
As far as Mykita frames go, as production of stainless frames seem to be getting under control, acetates are impossible to secure. For instance, we've been getting a lot of inquiries about a certain Mykita style. Sadly, all we got is a music video featuring (heavily) the frame.

It's finally happening

Weekend brings exciting news from our new friends in Japan...
Yes, yes, yes!
Spivvy
frames, and even some pieces from Yoichi collection are getting ready to be shipped. First half of the order will be here in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!

Few things you must know about these frames.

The quality here is so damn striking you will want to cuddle and hold the frames and examine them like fine pieces of art. No kidding! Even Xavier Derome spoke highly of them during his visit, and Xavier knows acetate like few people on Earth.

Anyway, we are too excited to speak the formal talk...

Yoichi is made by Mr.Sasaki who is also responsible for overseeing the finest production details during creation of Spivvy, and in our eyes, Spivvy proposes one of the most beautifully made acetate eyewear in the world.

Mr.Sasaki is a renowned representative of eyewear craft in Fukui, Japanese epicenter of eyewear manufacturing. With more than 40 years of experience, his filling and polishing techniques leave people breathless. His creations, polished like mirrors without using a polishing machine, maintain all corners. This allows for the edges to give sharp lines, projecting aggressive, rough image that is delicate and sensitive at the same time.

Incredibly well-drawn, the frames are great examples of perfectly executed eyewear and once we found out about their existence, we did not blink, we ordered.

F*** it, we must have.

Unable to persuade us otherwise, Yuji, one of the coolest guys in the indsutry, gave in to our persistent demands and voila!, few months later, Spectacles for Humans is about to touch the eyewear clouds.

And if we are not reaching for the clouds, we might as well pack and go back to Ukraine.

Glary days

Say hello to our sister store - GLARE. Located just 2 blocks away from Spectacles for Humans and dedicated solely to sunglasses, it's scheduled to open sometimes at the end of March- beginning of April.

Same street, same people, more cool stuff.

We apologize

We really do need to apologize for slower than usual responses to all the requests that come in to Spectacles for Humans via SFH blog. Higher than normal human traffic in the store is creating serious interferences and our people are working on resolving the issue.

Enjoy a music video while you wait. And hey, it's an unreleased Crystal Castles' adventure!

VAZATAK by OG

Oliver Goldsmith is known for:

a. originality;
b. creativity;
c. craftsmanship.

In our opinion, these are the perfect ingredients for stylish eyewear. With Claire pulling strings, OG is once again regaining speed and claiming the eyewear design crown. Everyone in the bis better watch out and take note; new generation of Goldsmiths is in the house.

And so it is with felicitation we announce the forthcoming arrival of a very special piece from Oliver Goldsmith. Handcrafted from Bengal Blue vintage acetate discovered in an abandoned factory in Italy... Now this alone is enough for us acetate junkies.. But there is more.

An Ostrich Leather case by VAZA makes this special package complete and with only 50 sets produced, Spectacles for Humans is proud to offer one pair to our clients.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to UNICEF.

The price is $1600.

We will also be offering OG Limited Edition Tees and Hoodies.

REIZ 2008 - Colors

The soft spoken dudes at REIZ deliver another winner.

The Colors collection is here and it is better than we remember. The white frames we saw in Tokyo were glaringly white, which designers acknowledged and pointed out actually, promising to soften the impact. And so they did.
The new White is milky and warm. Together with clear acetate the color traps light, creating balmy effect that works wonders against the skin.
The Red is gorgeous, that's no brainer, but we believe it's the Blue and the Mushroom that will be the head turners. Anyway, the first frame to sell .... model Shibuya in Blue.

Start the year right

Oliver Goldsmith Opticians are back!

Her new website up and running and another stunning sunglass collection on it's way to retailers, Claire Goldsmith is showing no signs of slowing down and in March of this year she is opening a new store in London.
Unlike Oliver Goldsmith showroom, where OG collections reign supreme, the new store will feature other lines, but only those that fit the OG philosophy of high design, style and quality.
Dear Claire, from all of us at Spectacles for Humans loud cheers and wishes of big success!!

Please visit OliverGoldsmith.com to view 2008 sunglass collection.
For those interested, a hand-picked selection of more than 40 (most gorgeous) pieces is scheduled to make a landing @ Spectacles for Humans in about 2-3 weeks. Check blog for updates.

Acetate dreams and stainless steel worries

We've been informed by higher-ups at Orgreen Optics that new acetate collection will be arriving in about 2 weeks.

Anticipation is sweet and we are so looking forward to receiving this stellar collection, awaiting to see how all of our new acetate picks fair against each other.
MYKITA and REIZ may have had a head start and already have fans all over the globe, but our instincts tell us this will be quite a match.
At Spectacles for Humans the feeling is .... 2008 will be the year Orgreen Optics conquers it all. We live for eyewear and all of our lines are special and bring something to the table noone else can, but when it comes to having fun with the product, Orgreen has it covered and their acetate collection will prove it once again.

******

Unfortunately not all is alright tonite.

It has come to our attention that MYKITA started offering their Collection 1 styles at local liquidators'... While some are aiming for the stars, can it be folks MYKITA are not seeing the big picture?
Seeking comfort in outlets is not very becoming, and being purists, we immediately expressed our disappointment and protested even. Sadly no official word from MYKITA as of yet.
And so we've been heavy-hearted for weeks.... This cannot be good and may mean the beginning of an ugly end - cool brand gone big.

It's time for a sad song. Take it away, Jarvis.

Issue is resolved and we are so glad we are seeing eye to eye with MYKITA shepherds.
