Lavender Street Beat

"Meet the assistant manager" is a very special event at Spectacles for Humans and in magnititude it can only rival the "Employee of the 24th street" extravaganza which is yet to be approved by local merchant association.

Not to worry, we hold the whole town in our hands.
Ladies and gents, please welcome our new employee - 1985 Skyway Street Beat. This Lavender wonder is all original and is ready to serve the community.

And so it goes, a ride up treacherous 24th street is yours with any purchase.
Just ask and ride at your own risk.

Restocked on Ratte

We are back in a saddle with one of REIZ's most sought after model/color combo - RATTE in Black/Transparent. Sadly, the color pictured above is no longer with us. It is gone forever and Herwin in Boston, MA was the last of the recipients.

The guys at REIZ are working on a new, "special" color and we should know the details very soon.

More Mykita action

Shopping for his new set of specs, Edward was drawn to current larger styles. While he initially had his eyes set on a couple of pairs from Select Opticals collection by DITA, we felt the fit on both Grand Reserve and Insider wasn't perfect for him and we decided to wait until next month when new styles and sizes are released. DITA is adding a new size to Grand Reserve and we feel it will be king! Coming sometime mid-May.

In the meantime, there it was, beautiful and glossy, model WALTER in Olive by MYKITA.
As perfect as it gets, we thought right away, and just a few days later, with the prescription work completed, Edward is about to drop a serious style bomb on his friends in Berkeley.

Peace and screwless hinges!

.....

"I wake filled with thoughts of you. Your portrait and the intoxicating evening which we spent yesterday have left my senses in turmoil.
Sweet incomparable Josephine, what a strange effect you have on my heart!
Are you angry?
Do I see you looking sad? Are you worried? ...
My soul aches with sorrow, and there can be no rest for your lover; but is there still more in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart a love which consumes me with fire? Ah! it was last night that I fully realized how false an image of you your portrait gives!
You are leaving at noon; I shall see you in three hours.
Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.

Bonaparte.
Paris, December 1795

CUTLER and GROSS is coming to Spectacles for Humans.

MYKITA Enzo

It's Friday and Anthony has all the reasons to smile.

Not only he's one of the lucky few in possession of coveted model Enzo by MYKITA, he's wearing it SO well.

All too often cool frames end up on wrong faces and this is obviously not the case. Proportion is perfect and stylistically speaking, we could not wish for better model/spokesperson for what we do.

New brand alert

Proposed as "a new eyewear line that redefines style and elegance" BartonPerreira recently made an entrance into eyewear scene.

There are some styles in the sunglass collection that are mildly attractive, with semi-original (as in "forgotten") touches, but the ophthalmic line-up needs complete and serious reforestation.

THE VERDICT: Never coming to Spectacles for Humans.

On this note, get a load of this goodness. How did we live our lives without this video?

UPDATE: Well...Few hours after the post went online, we received a polite phone call from BartonPerreira people saying they could not help but notice the write up and asking if they can show us the collection in person.

O....K....Sure. We'll look, but we're not known for changing our minds. And besides, you will do well in stores that you're already in.

Another Tuesday @ Spectacles for Humans

"I work at the intersection of media culture and human memory. My artwork depicts collapse: between producer and consumer, viewer and viewed and simulated and real. I appropriate material, bend rules of consent, restage events and invite viewers to alter my exhibited pieces."

No collapse on our part.

Scott Kildall is right however about appropriating the materials. He is seen wearing a recently appropriated pair of Orgreen frames, model Shadow. In our opinion, there is no altering this exhibit piece.

Check out Scott's work @ www.kildall.com.

Judy lives in Noe Valley and works as a Physician at Kaiser hospital. She says that lately, every time she noticed someone for their frames, the answer came back the same - "I got them at this place on 24th street". Our evil plan is working!!

Fresh and rested from her fab vacation in Sicily, she picked out the perfect pair - Jacky 7 in Deep Purple/Faux Wood from DeromeBrenner.

And then, out of nowhere, a surprise visit from Mister Ashida himself. Oh, you know Mr.Ashida, don't you?? Let me refresh your memory... Yeap, that's him and Henrik Orgreen during last year's IOFT show in Tokyo.

Taka-san ( he makes Orgreen and Oliver Goldsmith frames come to life) was making his way home from last week's show in New York, and a stop in San Fracisco is never a bad thing. He popped in to say hello and see what we were up to.

Tomo arigato! See you in Osaka!!

The webstore is almost ready

We are moving along with it and in a week or so, motors should be good to go. Most of our collections will be ready for viewing and purchasing, but as always, we don't make things easy for you. Some lines will not be listed due to regulations.

Start saving, basically!

www.spectaclesforhumans.com

Also in the news, apparently someone thinks we make too much moneys, 'cause if you saw our tax bill you'd hang yourself. To remedy that, we will be cutting hours and adding another day off to ourselves. Starting in May Spectacles for Humans will be closed Mondays and Tuesday. And we'll be taking the month of August off from now on as well. Screw it.

In our entertainment division, the new video from Denki Groove is causing serious waves. Some of us think it's the best video ever made.

Trip to NY, random pics

New York.

The one and only, the very hot Aurelia Brenner.

Some of the new Orgreen designs, coming soon!

Olga T. of Spectacles for Humans and Aurelia Brenner of DeromeBrenner talk business.

Xavier Derome, need I say more?

Olga T., she makes Spectacles for Humans run like a Swiss watch.

The sweetest of them all, the super talented and always working Claire Goldsmith in her suite at W Hotel before the show. Claire is expecting and we are happy and wish her an easy one.

The date is set for her visit and next Spring is it. I know some of you may be disappointed it can't be sooner, but come on, let the girl have her baby first.

D.Grunhauser, drooling over new Orgreen designs.

Our favorite attendees, Tabasco and Tequila, and they weren't even part of the show!

Gregers and Sahra representing Orgreen. It was so nice to see them Orgreen folks and the latest on a possible trunk show is a "maybe".

It's never a dull moment with Henrik Orgreen around!

More to come!

Now off to NY.

New MYKITA suns arrive

A busy day @ SFH and no time for home made pics.
With acetate sunnies gone in a blink, we focus now on what we can actually get and it's MYKITA's stainless steel frames. (It has come to our attention that another shop in San Francisco is selling them as titanium and it's been driving us crazy... STOP IT, people!! Stop it now!!! Tom, please talk to them. This is ridiculous. )

Anyway, the new styles are arriving and we are loving the THICKNESS!
HECTOR is the model we are eying specifically and as a newer, beefer and chunkier ELLIOT, Hector is set to become MYKITA's new designated stunner.

ROLF is still through the roof, but with Brandolina sporting one on the cover of some rag, this may very well put the style out of commission.

New for chicks is ZOE.

Sleek and sexy, this one is probably the best we've seen from MYKITA's recent shapes for girls. Of course, girls can always slip into a pair of ROLF's and rock the town, but when it comes to feminine touch, this is the hot one.

p.s. MYKITA is currently looking for shop manager. If you have what it takes, apply.

While we're gone

Yelle is a fav @ SFH and her new video is the bum! Watch it while we are gone.

It is official, the eyewear line up at Spectacles for Humans is final.
After 2 years of shifting gears we know we are getting it so right and this week's trip to New York is more of a sacrificial visit - we already have most of the lines we want. And so not to be bothered by the industry foxes, we are not going under SFH umbrella and will be flying under the radar.
In other words, with our stealth suits on, we'll be there without really being there. Observing.

Stealth is king!

PROPO DESIGN is coming next week

We throw descriptives around all day long and so far the best way we've come up to describe PROPO DESIGN to all who await this brand's arrival to North America is "Japanese version of Oliver Peoples when Oliver Peoples were at the peak of its greatness".
(this will be the only and last time we mention OP in this blog...)

The designs are sublime, the quality is, well, it's Japanese and in eyewear today it stands for "quality" and the people behind the brand are equally genuine and friendly. Sounds too good to be true?? It is.

Fairy tales like this can only originate in Japan and we at Spectacles for Humans are proud and happy to be the story tellers.

P.S. 4/7 UPDATE!! From "track and confirm" people:

"Your item left OSAKA INT, JAPAN on April 7, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."

Closed April 9th, 10th and 11th for Vision Expo in NY.

Going to trade shows in Paris, Milan and Tokyo is all fine and dandy, but when it comes to basic supplies, we prefer to hit local events.
This means we'll be taking SFH team on the road and we wanted to let everyone know, we will be closing Spectacles for Humans for 3 days next week - from 9th to 11th, to be exact.

Don't panic, we'll be back before you know it. And with lots new info, gossip and other hot stuff.

See ya all soon!!
