MYKITA Bruce will rev your engine

Joshua travels all over the country to work on different race tracks collecting and processing hi-tech racing data and a great pair of sleek sunglasses was long in order. Style Bruce in Pearl color from the uber-cool Berlin design team MYKITA was a perfect match.

Oh yeah, it fights glare and all that good stuff, but most importantly, it makes you feel like flooring it.

ZEISS EyeTerminal: up and runnning like a dream

Given all the technological advances in optics over the past 2 decades, it was obvious, something had to happen to the old fashioned method of taking measurements. From ruler to pupilometer and then.... Ah, we are so glad folks at ZEISS stepped up and filled the void by introducing the Eye Terminal.

Having worked with our freshly installed ZEISS Eye Terminal for the past 2 weeks all we can say is WOW!!WOW!!WOW!!
What a difference! Although don't get us wrong, we have never had any problems with fitting multifocal lenses, ever, but working with this intergalactic looking hi-tech gem is almost like we are able to function on a molecualr level. Without question, we see things differently now and so can you, and only at Spectacles for Humans. Yes, we are the first store in San Francisco to offer Centration services via Eye Terminal.

Katherine and Jax model OG sunglasses

Katherine Lambert, a San Francisco based architect currently working on offices for San Francisco Opera House, together with her new puppy, a beautiful Eurasier named Royal Rascal Jax, model Katherine's new sunglasses from Oliver Goldsmith. Model Chas in Leopard is as good as it gets when it comes to style and function, and if Jax does not get to them, Katherine will enjoy them for a long time.

Graz was in town

Graz Mulcahy , the person responsible for all those ultra-fresh Ksubi sunnies of the past few years (yes, it's his signature you see on all the styles), was in town and dropped in for a chat.

As some of you may know, Graz has left his position as a designer for Ksubi Eye earlier this year. He's taking some time off and also working on new exciting personal projects and one of them, a set of 2 Limited Edition frames, is something we were absolutely thrilled to hear about.
Graz promises "it's going to be good, very good" and knowing his work, you can count on that. What you can't count on is finding too many of these. With about 10 stores in the world set to showcase his latest designs and probably 10 pairs allocated to each, the availability will be less than scarce. Oh, yeah, Spectacles for Humans is one of them stores where you will find them. Don't know when we'll have them just yet....Graz headed to Mexico to live on a beach for a few months.

And yes, there is serious bling action going on here.... Custom 24K gold grill encrusted with 50 individual diamonds... Santa Cleopatra!!!

On importance of safety eyewear

Few things scream "I am a danger to society" louder than a pair of unsexy safety specs.

A friendly message from Spectacles for Humans:

Please, choose wisely while shopping for safety eyewear.

Example one: not good

Example two: excellent

Having fun in SF

Rachel, of Rachel Pally fame was visiting SF for a "mega wedding party" and it looks like future visits won't be complete without a stop at Spectacles for Humans.

An accomplished and talented designer herself (and very cute!), Rachel spotted gorgeous DeromeBrenner jewelry the moment she walked in the shop and being a "bangle freak", she took home a great piece - a chunky bracelet from African Retro Collection.

She also fell in love with MYKITA sunglasses - model Viktor in Goldline looked especially good against her perfect So Cal tan.

REIZ against the machines

Ean, visiting San Francisco from Denver, has heard good things about Spectacles for Humans on superfuture forums and being he was on the market for a new pair of specs, he chose not miss the opportunity to browse our selection in person.

A pair of handmade frames by Reiz Augenspiel - model Hummel in black and clear acetate - is going to a good home.

Not willing to settle for mediocre, Reiz designers took classic black and clear acetate formula and elevated it to the next level by enfolding the transparent acetate in two layers of black. Hand beveled and hand polished by chamois, the resulting frames, with their sleek curvatures and 3-D appearance, are stunning examples of modern craftsmanship.

September 6th update:
REIZ designers are frequent visitors to Spectacles for Humans blog and they loving the way their Hummel frame fits Ean!

MYKITA Rocco

Robert, a software designer for Apple, is battling the foggy San Francisco's weather with the help of his new MYKITA frames. After trying various styles, he chose the award winning model Rocco in blackberry.

By the way, Robert is the guy behind iPhone's cool features like rotating screen and double finger screen size adjustment.

Tanna wears one of the latest styles from ONKEL - model Faun in black/red acetate.
Based on last year's much successful Limited S-Glass Collection, new styles from ONKEL are finished in thicker, edgier acetates. Somehow they still remain incredibly light. A stylish mystery indeed!

Mike wears MYKITA Curtis in blackberry.

Mike, a member of SFPD tactical unit and an eyewear aficionado, came in a week ago when he needed help with his ic!Berlin specs. Once he saw MYKITA frames, and how different their construction was from ic!Berlin, there was no way of stopping him. He had t have it!

You must know who Kavinsky is by now.

Working hard, the Parisian way

Love it or hate it (and ourselves, we are not fans of goofy eyewear choices usually, but the black and white piece is simply superb in this video), these kids rock their frames with great aplomb.

If They Tell You I Fell

Carl Zeiss Eye-Terminal

Owning and collecting beautiful eyewear is a great way to come in touch with your design and fashion aspirations, but let us not forget the main purpose of it all - crystal clear vision.

Big fans of German optics, we've recently become aware of an amazing piece of ophthalmic equipment from Carl Zeiss ... Eye-Terminal.

The great minds behind Zeiss, a true pioneer in optical field, created super sophisticated digital scanning system that helps Opticians to take most precise measurements necessary for fitting frames with prescription lenses.
Every aspect, however minuscule it may seem to human eye, is taken into account. Slight head tilt, true distance between eyes and lenses, frame angle, amount of wrap and even lens type; all are carefully examined and interpreted with unrivaled precision to guarantee the best possible acuity in the final product.

After making sure Eye-T was indeed available in North America, we quickly arranged a test drive with representatives from Zeiss. We absolutely loved what we saw and ordered it on a spot! Within weeks, Spectacles for Humans will become the first store in Northern California to offer customized Rx lens fitting with the help of Eye-Terminal from Zeiss.

Cool free standing unit is on its way to us and very soon, you will be able to experience vision the way it was meant to be!

October is around the corner

and we at Spectacles for Humans are busy making plans to visit both IOFT in Tokyo and SILMO in Paris.

Fascinated by all things Japanese from Cornelius' "Rolling Stone" to Amazing Cement Challenges, we want to explore more opportunities within this starlight culture. Already in the works are several potential additions to Spectacles for Humans and a trip to Japan will sure seal the deal.

Cornelius - Like a Rolling Stone

We are also very excited about going to SILMO again. And while we are flattered by countless invitations to sail up in style to Las Vegas, for West Coast's eyewear event of the year, sorry...We prefer to do our shopping in Paris. Please don't hate us for that...

... so cool, someone went the distance to scheme and arrange for our entire shipment to be stolen from UPS delivery center. LOL!
People, we are fighting professional robbers to get the good stuff to you.

WeHo

As some of you may know, we are tight with uber-cool folks at SelfEdge, San Francisco's premier supplier of quality denim and overseas' fashions. Discussing current events and future prospects, it has come to our attention that expansion is a much needed maneuver for both companies and naturally we have set out sights on LA-LA land and , to be exact, West Hollywood's last bastion of coolness - Fairfax avenue.

There we were... Sweating in our Flatheads, VisVims and Vibskov's strong undies, pale and obviously not used to LA's sun drenched reality, we stood , drooling over magnificent (although defunct and in need of repair) neon LEADER sign above the building which was obviously exhibiting all signs of welcome to all of our expedition crew.

Will it happen? We don't know. It's all in the hands of God, as I see it. Being across the street from Canter's is probably not all that good for our health, but damn it... We want that space...

In any case, should it not go our way, we will overcome the emotional fracture caused by not getting in on a cool neon sign at the right time, but the fact remains just that... Both SelfEdge and Spectacles for Humans are coming to LA... and SOON! Just letting you know.

San Francisco loves geometry

Katherine wears Crusader in Petrolium/Burnt Orange by Orgreen Optics.

Michael sports model Curtis in Blackberry by MYKITA.

New styles from THAKOON

What gorgeous frames these are!
Gotta give it to designer Thakoon Panichgul for choosing to go to AlekPaul folks for his eyewear needs. Together they have created fantastic line of sunglasses that are not only beautifully designed, but of highest quality as well.
