Happy New Year from Spectacles for Humans!

Into the '08

With Bhuto dead, Bonde do Role broken up and Bono consistently looking like a spacefu*k, we are heading into the New Year...
Not looking too good, ain't it? And where does all that leave us?

Oh, not to worry. We are pressing on with usual grandiloquence, juggling more stuff than Cirque de Soleil on MiraLax, happy to show off our heroics to stunned outsiders.
To be honest, and without being too cocky, we are more than happy with what's been going on at Spectacles for Humans. Blockbuster like success of DeromeBrenner Trunk Show proved we are on the right track, defending quality and craftsmanship and all that, and shed new light on future developments for 2008.

Be on the look out for:

  1. Orgreen acetates!! It's going to be hot, hot, hot!!!
  2. stunning Spivvy frames are due to arrive in March
  3. clever designs from Propodesign Japan
  4. futuristic look of SpecEspace Japan
  5. Yoichi, the master craftsman's works come to US
  6. probably more good stuff from MYKITA...
  7. Spectacles for Humans The Private Line...
  8. first X...
  9. Orgreen party in August!!!! not be missed
  10. another store...
As they say, stay tuned!

REIZ Colors coming this week

A new and exciting edition to Spectacles for Humans, REIZ Colors frames are almost here. Unlike last year's collection, the one we ordered in October of '06 and received in April of '07, this one is on a fast train and it promises to be another hit! Once here, we'll go over the details and colors; be assured though, quality is overwhelming.

Omari wears REIZ model Hummel in Black and Clear.
He wears it well... This is as good as it gets basically. We had to compliment his sense of style.

Mykita Collection No.2

At last!

Shiny and new, frames from Collection No.2 by MYKITA made their debut at Spectacles for Humans on Thursday.

Needless to say, we are thrilled! Everyone at the shop is having difficulty examining the nifty screwless hinges though, mainly because the colors are too mesmerizing. What a beautiful product, BRAVO!!

And everyone is in agreement...These frames rock!!! The hinges are another example of ingenuity and talent that is MYKITA design team. Unlike stainless steel frames, the hinges on acetates gently fold inward, and while acetates don't offer the flexibility of metal frames, the styling here is impeccable. On display, sleek shapes and glossy colors make MYKITA frames look like candy and you cannot help but to take one... or two...or three.
And that's exactly what we been faced with in the past 2 days - people are having difficulties making up their minds about which color to pick because they like all of them! The Warm Grey is stunning, and so is the chocolate-like Brown, pic below. You add to that super-glossy Black and cool Grey, and customers start giggling nervously.
And in the end, we don't even sell floor samples, and instead will be ordering new frames with expected delivery in 2-4 weeks.
Only two people were able to score actual physical frames.
Soren
, a MYKITA devotee, had our promise he'll be the first one to comb through our first delivery of acetates. He chose model Cedric in Cool Grey.
And then there was Kyia, of San Francisco's best denim store, SelfEdge. Always among the first in the know, he's already cruising around town in a brand new model Enzo in Cool Grey.

3 days with DeromeBrenner

We are continuing down the path of recovery from the gargantuan event that was DeromeBrenner Trunk Show. To say the shop was full is a brutal joke and severe understatement...
We were completely booked, swamped and sold out. The amount of people we served and entertained with killer acetate creations from DeromeBrenner's current and upcoming 2008 Collection was staggering.
More than we could foresee or imagine, this rare opportunity to meet the designers, drew crowds from farthest corners of Bay Area and beyond; people came in droves. And they certainly did not miss out! Everyone enjoyed cool eyewear designs, music and a bit of alcohol.

Kiya of SelfEdge, was one of the first to give new DB styles a thorough pat down. Below, Kiya is examining the lamination on a pair of Stardust 6 while Sydney and Xavier look on.

Everybody is hangin' with Xavier and Aurelia

Insanity is the word most widely used at Spectacles for Humans. We are all very well acquainted with it, take it for granted, and some even use it as a middle name. With that in mind, we must say, we are extremely fortunate to have been able to offer our clients a chance to have personal interaction with Xavier Derome and Aurelia Brenner, two people with great passion for eyewear design, tradition and cool fashionable things in general.
To describe to you how cool these guys are is simply impossible and this Sunday is the last day they are working the floor with us. Then ... poof!!... they go back home to France.

We will be back with more, you know that, but for now, some of us could use few hours of basic sleep. Oh yes, we also encourage everybody to dream about taking a vacation.

This train don't carry no gamblers ....

Johnny Cash Christmas Show....Good ol' days...

Most of us weren't getting around that much then, but we still believe Roy Orbison would have looked real fine in a pair of DeromeBrenner sunnies.

Kudos to Kevin @ Martin&Martin

Nowadays, when one sees a company go far to accommodate one singular customer, it must be mentioned out loud.

Lai, a design student from Taiwan, fell in love with model Oscar by Martin&Martin, but wanted one in a classic Tortoise shell color. At that moment, Spectacles for Humans only stocked 2 colors - Black/Clear and White... A quick phone call to Martin&Martin's man in North America, Kevin C., and the whole tray of colors was in our possession in just a couple of days. Needless to say, Lai was happy to get the frame he wanted, but to choose from 3 different types of Tortoise was definitely a nice touch. Thanks Kevin!

Revolution of style by DeromeBrenner

In the busiest of moments, during typical Saturday afternoon's stampede at Spectacles for Humans, we've heard from Xavier and Aurelia, who have landed safely at LAX.
They are doing well among the natives and are planning to spend a few days in LA, soaking up some of that that juicy SoCal culture, then heading up North to San Francisco for the much talked about Trunk Show.

Needless to say, we at Spectacles for Humans are silently screaming from excitement of hosting the international design dignitaries and with our best underwear freshly bleached and handsomely ironed, we are gearing up for one special event.

A few words must be said, again, about DeromeBrenner designs.
We've been hooked on DB handsome shapes and smashing color combinations since 2005 . Fighting hard with UPS customs clearance office to get our first shipment into the store in time for Grand Opening, explaning that Croc Manchette is not really made of crocodile, made us realize we were onto something.

Since then, day after day, we stand firmly against the herds of Prada and Gucci seekers, proudly presenting DeromeBrenner, the pinnacle of French eyewear design and one of finest examples of handmade acetate in the world.

Intellectual consumers took notice immediately, recognizing astonishing quality the French duo was offering and now, less than 2 years later, DeromeBrenner is BIG and on its way to become a household name that represents exceptional quality and design.

Spectacles for Humans: Remixed

This is Sparta!

In a very short time Spectacles for Humans have become the North American leader and a bastion of progressive eyewear designs. In today's world of "masstige", where unsuspecting consumers, flooded with fake luxury, unknowingly decorate themselves with questionable merchandise, we are proud to be the brave lone source of quality and good optical design. What we have been able to achieve is truly amazing and is more than encouraging, and looking in to the 2008, we are very excited about the future where we will continue to promote the ideas of craftsmanship, original design and quality. That, after all, is at the heart of our philosophy and we have no other choice but to press on with the divine plan.

But there is a darker, sinister side to it all ... And like Billy Mumphrey, who as you may remember, was "a simple country boy; you might say, a cockeyed optimist"; like him, we too got ourselves "mixed up in the high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue".

In other words, we got remixed.

Oh, this is not new; we are used to people milking our blog for ideas but some, like a certain Optometry shop in Tel-Aviv, have literally taken inspiration and "copy and paste" to a new level.

Without further due, I present to you www.Dejavuoptometrist.blogspot.com
(Deja Vu ... could you think of a better name for plagiarists??) the so-called "creators" of which are taking the liberty of helping themselves to our blogging efforts with "unbridled enthusiasm".

Frame of the day: DeromeBrenner Jacky 2

We've been working on finding the right pair of acetate specs for Brandon in San Diego for the past couple of weeks. He's anxious to speed away from skinny, nondescript metal frames and venture into the world of handmade acetate. This move has its challenges and we are getting close to working out all the sizing issues. After trying on a pair of REIZ Ratte frames, we've come to conclusion we needed to size down a bit and make adjustments to nose bridge size. Wondering if he should wait until MYKITA acetate collection comes out, Brandon mentioned DeromeBrenner Trunk Show and whether we mightbe able to find something in DB line up for him. Of course!
Enter model Jacky 2. This will work beautifully, and it will be the greatest way to start wearing acetate frames. We only foresee one potential problem... You start with the best, and you will not be able to stomach the generic stuff. NEVER!

God help him picking the color though, hahah!

News from Orient!

We have been on a serious Polysics kick lately and suddenly our new friends in Japan inform us we are on schedule and should start taking deliveries at the end of January. Coincidence? We think otherwise.

Also in the news, it appears Spectacles for Humans will start carrying sunglasses by The FlatHead Company. Known for its icredible raw denim, The FlatHead produces one style of sunglasses which should find its way onto our shelves sooner rather than later. Pics to come!

I, My, Me, Mine by Polysics.

More Polysics is better than less Polysics.

WOW! ORGREEN DAYS!!

What a weekend we all had!
Don't get us wrong, we are pro-more-money, but when you deal with beautiful merchandise like Orgreen frames, cash represents little and connections we make with people who share our vision mean a lot more than a signature on that credit card slip. There is so much more to great eye wear designs and we are only happy to have made great new friends who truly enjoy our selection.

Our busiest Trunk Show ever, we really could not spare a person to document all the commotion and will have to resort to borrowed form of entertainment.

POLYSICS - You - you - you!

For now we are taking a short break and prepping Spectacles for Humans for first ever DeromeBrenner event in America!
